FORDING OPERATIONS
WARNING
Fording operations should not be attempted unless water crossing is known to be 20
inches (508 mm) or less and water bed is firm. If crossing depth and water bed are
unknown, proceed with extreme caution. Cross one vehicle at a time. Ensure vehicle is
pulled forward after crossing to allow next vehicle enough room to pull onto bank. Failure to
comply may result in injury or death to personnel. Seek medical attention in the event of an
injury.
NOTE

FM 3-90.12 (Volume 2, WP 0230).
1.
Perform the following checks prior to fording operations:
a.
Ensure all equipment is stowed and secured (strapped, tied, etc.) in its designated stowage location.
b.
Ensure trailer connections including safety chains are secure and pintle hook is latched and pinned.
