PUMP MAKES EXCESSIVE NOISEStep 1. Check volute for foreign material.With engine stopped and suction hose removed, inspect pump volute forany foreign material or obstruction.Excessive pump noise can indicate that pumpis running dry or is cavitating. Either of theseconditions can cause serious pump damage.The centrifugal pump unit should not be runin this condition any longer than necessary toisolate trouble.Step 2. Check that suction hose is immersed in water being pumped or properly con-nected to container from which water is being pumped. Water level in containershall be above suction hose connection.Relocate suction hose connection below surface of water. Keep suctionintake off of bottom when pumping.Step 3. Check suction hoses, connections, or parting surface of suction flange for leaks.Check pipe plugs are not leaking.Step 4. Check that pump has been properly primed.If pump has not been properly primed, prime pump (para 2-5.f).4-44
