REMOVE.
(1)
Remove piston pin circlips (1, Figure 4-8), piston pin (2), and piston (3) from connecting rod (4).
(2)
Tag piston (3) to its cylinder order.
(3)
Remove piston rings (5) from piston (3).
b.
INSPECT.
NOTE
If piston is replaced, the piston pin, piston rings, and cylinder must also be replaced.
(1)
Inspect piston and piston rings for cracks, chips, and burrs.
(2)
Replace defective components.
(3)
Clean ring grooves in piston.
(4)
Use ring groove gage. Insert pin on gage into first ring groove of piston. If gage body touches piston,
the piston is defective.
NOTE
If any of the clearances do not meet specifications, piston is defective.
