MALFUNCTION
TEST OR INSPECTION
CORRECTIVE ACTION
If oil flows from tube assembly, replace gage as described in paragraph 4-41.
NOTE
All TEST OR INSPECTION or CORRECTIVE
ACTION steps assume that engine side
panels have been removed if necessary for
access.
8. ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE IS EXCESSIVELY HIGH OR LOW
Step 1. Check for low coolant level.
WARNING
Hot coolant may be released when radiator cap is
removed. Allow engine to cool before removing
cap. Open cap part way to ensure that pressure in
cooling system is released, then remove cap.
Remove radiator cap. Coolant level should be about 3 inches (7.62 cm) below filler neck.
If coolant level is below operating level, refill radiator with MIL-A-46153 coolant. Restart engine.
After engine is warm, check oil pressure and water temperature. Oil pressure should be 18 psi
(124 kPa) at 1200 rpm. Water temperature should be between 160-185°F (71-85°C).
