EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION
EQUIPMENT CHARACTERISTICS, CAPABILITIES, AND FEATURES OF THE WATER WELL DRILLING
SYSTEM (WWDS)
CHARACTERISTICS
The WWDS is world wide deployable by land, sea, or air. The well drilling system is designed to be deployed with
forward military units. Its purpose is to provide a sustainable source of water for consumption, hygiene, civil
construction, and agricultural irrigation for military operating bases, host nation population areas, and
humanitarian relief for areas with at-risk or non-existent water supplies.
The WWDS is made up of four components:
Water Well Drilling Rig (WWDR)
Water Well Support Vehicle (WWSV)
Mud Cleaning System (MCS)
WWDR CAPABILITIES
The WWDR is capable of drilling large 12.25-in. (31.12 cm) diameter holes up to 2000 ft (610 m).
The WWDR is capable of mobility in rough terrain and is all-weather operational.
The WWDR is capable of fording 20-in. (51 cm) of water at a minimum speed of 5 mph (8 km/h).
The WWDR is capable of night-time drilling operations by use of 12 shock-proof LED lights powered by the deck-
mounted engine.
The WWDR is capable of transporting 500 ft (152 m) of drill pipe using on-board storage.
The WWDR is equipped with an Automated Rod Handling System (ARHS) which is capable of aligning, grasping,
lifting, and manipulating drill rods to and from stowage.
WWDR FEATURES
The WWDR is integrated with a custom two-man, 6x6 carrier.
The WWDR is equipped with tiedown points for rail, air, or ocean transport.
The WWDR is equipped with a front bumper hydraulic worm-drive winch for recovery of ancillary equipment.
The WWDR is equipped with two rifle mounting brackets capable of securing two M16A1, M16A2, or M4 carbines
within reach of the occupants.
The cab of the WWDR is equipped with a safety egress window and ladder for use when the cab door cannot be
opened.
The WWDR is equipped with 159 gal. (602 L) and 106 gal. (401 L) capacity fuel tanks.
The WWDR is powered by a CAT C-18, 630-hp diesel engine that provides prime power for movement along with
power required for drilling operations.
The WWDR catwalk system serves as a safety feature for personnel and runs the functional length of the storage
bed.
