Alternator.
There is
evidence
of arcing, over-
heating, binding,
WARNING
or cracking.
Engine must be shut down when inspecting
alternator (1).
CAUTION
Avoid grounding or shorting the alternator.
Never disconnect battery while alternator
is operating.
Remove negative battery cable from battery
before tightening connection on alternator.
Avoid making contact across the two battery
posts. This can result in severe arcing.
Visually inspect wire for loose ring terminals (2), loose
connection at alternator post (3), corrosion at ring
terminals (2) or alternator posts, burn marks at
connections (arcing), damaged insulation (4), burned
or melted insulation (overheating), and frayed or worn
spiral wrap tubing (5).
Visually inspect alternator
bearing support (6) for
cracks or discoloration
due to overheating.
Visually inspect voltage
regulator (7) for looseness.
