Install relay countersunk screws and tighten

Position wire (exciter winding to relay) on terminal
stud on relay.

Install spring lockwashers and hex nuts on terminals
on relay and tighten securely.

Install clamp and relay screw and tighten securely.
FINAL TEST
CAUTION
Under no-load conditions the starter will exceed safe
RPM's.
36. Starter
Retest assembled starter as in step 1. Connect starter
in series with a fully charged 12-volt battery and connect
a remote starting switch as shown. Energize starter by
momentarily depressing switch; observe whether pinion
moves forward and begins rotating at a high rate of
speed. If it does not, consult the symptom chart in step
1 and proceed accordingly.
