StarterClean with P-D-680 solvent and dry with compressedcomponentsair. When cleaning armature, exciter winding, andrelay, use soft cloth wet with solvent. Do not soakthese components in solvent. Dry with soft cloth orcompressed air.17. Brush holder,Clean accumulated dirt, carbon, or other foreigncarbon brushes,material from brush holder, carbon brushes, and otherand brushbrush components with P-D-680 solvent. Dry with softcomponentscloth or low pressure compressed air. Inspect forexcessive wear or damage. Inspect commutator end ofbrushes for dirt, glaze, or other material preventing goodelectrical contact with commutator. Replace glazedbrushes or brush components that are excessively wornor damaged. Replace brushes and leads if leads arefrayed or broken.18. Armature andRemove dirt and carbon from between commutator barscommutatorInspect armature and its commutator for excessivewear, missing bars, or broken solder connections.Replace armature if commutator is excessively worn orhas missing commutator bars.
