If restricted, remove restriction. Start engine (Volume 1, WP 0040) and verify if engine
exhaust is excessively white or black.

If not restricted, proceed to next MALFUNCTION - Interior engine component failure.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
NOTE
Likely cause of white exhaust is burning of engine coolant. Likely cause of black
exhaust is burning of engine oil. High engine temperature, accompanied by white
exhaust with a sweat smell is a sign of head gasket failure. High engine oil
consumption accompanied by black exhaust and possible sluggish engine
performance is a sign that an internal engine seal, gasket, or component has
failed.
Notify maintenance.
