TM 10-4320-344-24n.o .p .q .r .To maintain bearing bore alignment, make sure main bearing caps are installedin their original positions.(1) Install main bearing caps in their original positions in accordance with theinstallation procedures given in paragraph 4.4.19.(2) Measure main bearing bores. Bearing bores must be 3.0665-3.0670 inches(77.8891-77.9018 mm). If bearing bores do not fail within these limits.replace engine block (1).(3) Check bearing bores for alignment. If crankshaft can be rotated freely byhand, bores are properly aligned.Check camshaft bearing bores of engine block (1). Internal diameter of boresmust be 2.1870-2.1889 inches (55.5498-55.59806 mm). If camshaft bearing boresdo not meet tolerance, replace engine block (1).Check plugs in vertical oil passages in corners of engine block (1). Makesure they are flush with or below top surface of block (1).Check all machined accessory mounting pads for flatness, nicks, and burrs.Remove nicks and burrs with a fine file.Inspect all components for damage.Replace all damaged or defective components.4.4.21.3 Installation.a.b.c .d .e .f .g.Install set screw (19) in engine block (1).Damage to equipment could result if bearings are not correctly aligned.• There are four camshaft bearings, one front bearing, two intermediatebearings, and one rear bearing.• Replacement camshaft bearings are precision cut and require no linereaming.• Ensure oil holes in bearings are aligned with oil holes in drilledpassageways of engine block.Install new rear camshaft bearing (16), two intermediate camshaft bearings(15), and front camshaft bearing (14) in engine block (1). Using bearingdriver, tap bearings into place.Apply sealant and install four pipe plugs (12) in engine block (1).Apply sealant and install six oil passage pipe plugs (11) and filler neck (10)in engine block (1).Inspect for leaks around filler neck (10), oil passage pipe plugs (11), andpipe plugs (12). Remove, apply sealant, and reinstall leaking components.Position two new gaskets (9) and side cover plates (8) on engine block (1) andsecure with twelve new lock washers (7) and bolts (6).Position new gasket (5) and cover (4) on engine block (1) and secure with twonew lock washers (3) and nuts (2).4-79NOTENOTE
