Remove two screws (Figure 3-11, 1) and seal retaining plate (2) from intermediate housing (3). Remove balance ring (4) from seal retaining plate (2). Discard balance r i n g ( 4 ) . Loosen four screws (5), guard clip (6) on two intermediate guard assemblies (7), and remove intermediate bracket (3). Remove four screws (5), lock washers (8), and two guard clips (6) from each intermediate guard (9). Discard lock washers (8). Remove set screw (10) and pipe plug (11) from intermediate bracket (3). Discard set screw (10). Remove packing nut (12), spacer intermediate bracket (3). Remove two retaining rings (15) ( 1 4 ). Discard ball bearing (16). (13), and impeller shaft (14) from and ball bearing (16) from impeller shaft 3-28
