Fuel tank Inspect exterior of tank for dents, broken welds,flaking paint, excessive rust, or other damage. Iffuel tank is severely dented or rusted, replace it.2. Suction line Inspect suction line for cracks, clogs, or other dam-age. If suction line is cracked, or has an obstructionthat cannot be removed, replace suction line.REPAIRWARNINGExplosion hazard exists when fuel tank is welded. Purge all fumes from tank before attemptingrepair involving heat or flame.3. Fuel tank If tank has broken welds, dry it thoroughly be-fore reworking the cracked weld. If the tank hasflaking paint or severe rust, sandpaper an arealarger than the damaged area. Sandpaper to baremetal. Then clean, treat, and paint tank inaccordance with MIL-T-704, Type A, color asspecified. Allow paint to dry.5-27
