9. UNUSUAL EXHAUST NOISE
WARNING
Handling hot exhaust shield, exhaust pipe,
muffler, and weather cap can cause severe
burns. Permit unit to cool before handling.
Step 1. Check exhaust system for loose or damaged parts.
a. Remove exhaust heat shield mounting screws and exhaust heat shield.
b. Inspect muffler for holes or other damage.
If muffler has holes or is damaged seriously in other ways, replace as described in
paragraph 4-17.
c. Inspect manifold, clamp, and exhaust manifold pipe for cracks, breaks, or other damage.
If clamp or exhaust manifold pipe is damaged, replace as described in paragraph 4-18.
If manifold is damaged, notify direct support maintenance.
d. Inspect exhaust system connections and mounting nuts and bolts for tightness. Make sure
that gasket material is in place.
Tighten any loose nuts and bolts.
