Open mud standpipe drain valve (Figure 3, Item 1) to drain mud from mud standpipe.

Safety cables and wedges can pinch fingers. Wear gloves when connecting hoses with
safety cables. Failure to comply may result in injury or death to personnel. Seek medical
attention in the event of an injury.
NOTE
If drilling with air compressor proceed to step 13 of this procedure.

If required, remove 3-in. (76 mm) hose (Figure 4, Item 1) from mud standpipe (Figure 4, Item 4).
