If clear-ance is not within 0.0012 to 0.0224 inch(0.031 to 0.569 mm), inspect pistons andreplace if necessary.NOTEEach piston is fitted with three rings: two compression rings and an oilcontrol ring. The top compression or trapezoidal ring can be identifiedby the bright chrome plating. The second compression or taper pistonring can be identified by its cast iron construction. A two-piece oilcontrol ring is used in the oil ring groove. All new piston rings must beinstalled whenever a piston is removed, replaced, or when a newcylinder is installed.6-115
