TM 10-4320-310-146-3.REPAIR/REPLACE CONNECTING ROD (Continued)7Disassemble connecting rod carefully insert bearing halves (8). The bottom half has a hole which fits intoconnecting rod cup. Reassemble connecting rod with two hexagon socket head cap screws. Tighten screwsfollowing procedures described in preceding step 5.8Measure inside diameter of bearing. Measure atpoints 1 and 2 along axis A and B. Measurementsshould be 1.6541 to 1.6525 inches (42.016 to 41.974mm).9If any measurement is outside the tolerance limits, replace the bearing. Make sure that measurementsfor points 1 and 2 are not different nor outside thetolerance limits, indicating that bearing is wearing ina conical shape.10Make sure measurements along axis A and B are notdifferent nor outside tolerance limits, indicatingbearing is wearing in an oval shape.11If bearing is out of-round, replace R. Follow procedure described in paragraph 6-8. Also check cylinder and pistonfor unusual wear. Follow procedures described in paragraphs 5-11 and 5-12.REPAIR:Dry cleaning solvent P-D-680 (safety orStoddard's Solvent) is potentially dangerous.Avoid repeated and prolonged breathing ofvapors and skin contact with the liquid. Donot use near open flame, arcing equipment,or other Ignition sources. Always wear eyeprotection and protective clothing. The flashpoint of P-D680 Is 100°F to 138°F (38°C to59°C).Death or serious injury could occur Ifcompressed air Is directed against the skin.Do not use compressed air for cleaning ordrying unless the pressure is/has beenreduced to 30 psi (2.06 bar) or less. Whenworking with compressed air always use chipguards, eye protection, and other personalequipment.1Clean rod bushing (1) and connecting rod (2) borewith dry cleaning solvent and dry with compressedair.6-8
