TM 10-4320-307-244-17CRANKSHAFT ASSEMBLY REPLACE/REPAIR (CONT)REMOVAL:1.Remove rear crankshaft seal assembly as follows:a.Remove eight capscrews (1) and washers (2) thatsecure rear cover (3) to crankshaft seal assembly.bRemove rear cover (3) and gasket (4) fromcylinder block (5).c.Remove rear crankshaft seal (6) from rear cover (3).d.Discard all oil seals.Use lifting device and slings of ad-equate capacity to lift crankshaft.Use of a lifting device not rated for thisweight may result in damage tocomponents or injury to personnel.2.Pass a 3/4-inch (19.05 mm) rope or fabric slingsthrough each of cylinder bores 1 and 6, aroundcrankshaft (7), and secure to suitable liftingdevice, so that crankshaft will be supportedwhen bearing caps are removed.3.Remove seven bearing caps as follows:a.Check that each bearing cap (8) ismarked with a match mark thatcorresponds to a match mark on cylinderblock (5). Match marks must showdirection of match as well as location.b.If match marks are not present, mark eachbearing cap (8) and its correspondingposition on lower flange of cylinder block(5) with the same identification number,with number going in same direction oneach component.c.Starting with front and rear bearing caps(8) and working toward center, removehexagon screws (9) and washers (10)which secure bearing caps to cylinder block(5).4-124
