MCS ENGINE STARTING PROCEDURE - Continued
To prevent starter motor damage, do not attempt to start the engine for more than 20
seconds continuously. If the engine does not start within 20 seconds, wait 1 to 2 minutes
before starting again. Failure to comply may result in damage to equipment.
Rotate ignition switch (Figure 1, Item 8) to START position for no more than 20 seconds.
If engine does not start, rotate ignition switch (Figure 1, Item 8) to OFF position and repeat Steps 4
Once engine starts, release ignition switch (Figure 1, Item 8) and allow switch to return to RUN
Set engine SPEED (Figure 1, Item 9) to approximately 850 rpm, as indicated on engine RPM display
(Figure 1, Item 1) for 1 minute to allow engine to warm.
Check that VOLT display (Figure 1, Item 2) is 12 VDC.
Check that fuel rate display (Figure 1, Item 10) is not indicating 0.00 L/H.
Maximum coolant temperature of 221°F (105°C) should not be exceeded. If maximum
temperature is exceeded, shut down the engine and notify maintenance personnel. Failure
to comply may result in damage to equipment.
Check that coolant temperature display (Figure 1, Item 3) is 187°F to 216°F (86°C to 102°C).
END OF TASK
MCS ENGINE SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE
Allow engine to idle for 5 minutes after removing load to allow a gradual cool down before
shutting down engine. Failure to comply can result in damage to equipment.
Idle engine for 5 minutes to cool engine down before shutting off engine.
Rotate ignition switch (Figure 1, Item 8) to OFF position.
