RADIATOR ASSEMBLY SERVICE/TEST/REPAIR/REPLACE (CONT).
Open engine draincock (4).
Open oil cooler draincock (5).
Close radiator draincock (2).
Install lower radiator hose (3).
Tighten hose clamps to 40 in-lbs torque (5 Nm)
Close engine draincock (4).
Close oil cooler draincock (5).
Do not allow the cooling system to dry out.
Do not remove the coolant filter at this time.
Clean the cooling system (internally) as follows:
The performance of heavy duty cooling system cleaner is dependent on time, temperature, and
concentration levels. An extremely scaled or flow restricted system, for example, may require
higher concentrations of cleaners, higher temperatures, or longer cleaning times. Heavy duty
cooling system cleaner can be safely used up to twice the recommended concentration levels.
Extremely scaled or fouled systems may require more than one cleaning.
Heavy duty cooling system cleaner contains no antifreeze. Do not allow the cooling system to
freeze during the cleaning operation.
Immediately add 1 gallon (3.8 liters) of heavy duty cooling system cleaner for each 10 to 15 gallons (38 to 57
liters) of cooling system capacity, and fill system with plain water.
Operate engine at normal operating temperatures (at least 185°F (85°C)) for 1 to 1-1/2 hours.
Shut engine off and drain cooling system in accordance with step 1.
Fill cooling system with clean water.
Operate engine at high idle for 5 minutes with the coolant temperature above 185°F (850C).
